The efforts the Stelmach government go to in order to creatively piss away our hard earned tax dollars never cease to amaze.
In only six months and spending a paltry $4,000,000 the profound logo and catchphrase pictured below were created.
I know, I know some of you are thinking you could put something together like that on paint in a matter of seconds but we must look more deeply into this stunning creation. The creators of this masterpiece point out some of the subtleties in this intense new brand:
“Some felt the ‘a’ and ‘l’ depicted mountain peaks, one of the most emotive characteristics of the province. The open ‘a’ at the end, suggests an open, welcoming Alberta,”
Ahhh of course. The open ‘a’ will clearly bring a new flood of visitors and investors. I know I never travel anywhere without assuring myself that the vowels in the local slogan feel open and welcoming. Had we only spent $3 million making this logo we may have missed leaving the ‘a’ open and turned Banff into a virtual ghost town as international tourists shun Alberta in droves due to our lacklustre and unwelcoming logo.
But hey, the government does not stop there of course. This bunch is spending another $21 million tax-dollars in order to promote this brand. While catchy and profound, these things don’t simply sell themselves you know.
The government has built a website here that not only displays this awesome logo but goes on into depths of flowery crap that only the most stoned of poets could have conceived.
Yes, Ed Stelmach who has proudly led Alberta from an estimated $8 billion surplus to a multi-billion dollar deficit in less than a year still doesn’t get it. To hell with health spending (except those 25% raises that Ed gave the health board yesterday) , to hell with the crumbling infrastructure, lets spend millions and millions on logos that are hardly worth a few bucks.
Ed, if you want to drawn tourism and business to Alberta CUT THE DAMN TAXES AND QUIT ATTACKING BUSINESS!
It worked before Eddie, I promise it will work again.
I agree, it’s a total waste of money. Alberta Advantage, RIP.
@#$%
Sickening. Even AltaInd won’t defend the PCs on this one. Stelmach is killing the Alberta Advantage.
Thank god your Grandchild is jumping ship to Australia so he won’t have to pay! hahaha ;o)
